A Pet is for Life
Having a pet has great rewards:  companionship, health benefits and unconditional love.   But, it is also a huge commitment:  It's for life - their life.  Pets depend on their caretakers for everything for as long as they live.  If you are thinking of getting a pet, think with your HEAD as well as your heart.  Puppies and kittens are cute, but they will be your responsibility for 10, 15, sometimes 20 years.

Dogs are pack animals and having to be removed from their pack, their family, is stressful for them and can have a life-long impact on their behavior.  There are valid reasons for surrendering a pet and that is why rescues and shelters exist, but too often I have seen animals surrendered because they are old, sick, or the family just doesn't have "time" for them.  If you are are having difficulting keeping your pet for any reason, I can help.   We can discuss the issues, see if there is a solution and if surrendering is the answer, I can help with rehoming.

One final thought.  If you own pets and are doing estate planning, don't forget to provide for your pets.  They are considered property and providing for their care when you can't will help ease the transition.
